88 Rodney Street
Liverpool L1 2TQ

Many thanks to all who attended the steering group meeting held at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral in January.

Meeting notes (PDF format) courtesy of Bernie Draper.

As the notes show, we decided to explore in greater depth the continuance of a homeopathy service and Amitav Ghosh & Ken Atherton have helpfully identified some possible premises at 88 Rodney Street, Liverpool. Cristal Sumner, Chief Executive of the British Homeopathic Association, is coming to Liverpool on Monday 6th March to view these premises at 2.00 pm and discuss further the availability and format of a clinic. This will be followed by a discussion — either at the premises or nearby — and I would anticipate finishing at around 4.00 to 4.30pm.

We have already had a number of expressions of interest from friends and supporters in coming along. If anyone else would like to join us would you please kindly reply to me as soon as possible so we have a reasonable indication of numbers. Even if you can’t come, I would be interested in any comments on the meeting notes, and any other ideas for taking this forward.

Further details of these premises

With many thanks for your continuing support

URGENT STEERING GROUP MEETING

Date: Saturday Jan 21st 2017
Time: 2pm to 4pm

Gibberd Room
Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
Cathedral House, Mount Pleasant
Liverpool, L3 5TQ
Tel: 0151 709 9222

Travel directions

We had a very well attended AGM on 29th October, demonstrating that we still have a high level of interest in Homeopathy in the Liverpool area. Proceedings, though, were natuarally muted by the news that Liverpool CCG and Wirral CCG had both decided to stop providing funding for the very long established homeopathy service which has provided so much benefit to patients over the years — both before and after the establishment of the NHS in 1948.

This, of course, does not prevent suitably qualified and experienced doctors from continuing to provide homeopathic services in their own GP practices but the lack of NHS access to the bespoke individualised Liverpool Medical Homeopathy Service clinic at Old Swan (including the outreach service from St Caths in Birkenhead) comes as a disappointment to the North West Friends . We are continuing to remonstrate strongly, both with Liverpool and Wirral CCGs. The North West Friends still have funds but we do not want to dissipate all our efforts and cash exclusively pursuing this in the light of NHS national funding issues — which have put extreme pressure on budgets for all local NHS services, particularly those (like homeopathy) which are not uniformly available throughout the country.

So what next?

As discussed at the AGM — and with the support in particular of the two LMHS Medical Doctors. together with Dr Amitav Ghosh and Professional Homeopath Ken Atherton — we have decided to hold an important STEERING GROUP MEETING to be held in the Gibberd Room at Liverpool Metropolitan RC Cathedral to discuss how best we can take forward the work of the clinic in these new circumstances.

Parking is available and the Cathedral is easily accessible from Liverpool Lime Street Station (aprox 15 minutes walk). The Gibberd room is the floor below the main cathedral and can be approached directly from the underground car park through the lower ground floor doors, or alternatively by entering through the main doors of the cathedral and descending the stairs to the basement level. There are also toilet facilities close to the Gibberd room for those that need them.

I do hope you can come to this Steering Group meeting and please do invite other friends interested in the continuance of the service — all be it in a different form. There is no charge or formal application form for this meeting but it would be helpful, for catering on the day, to have approximate numbers. If you could please give an indication if you can / cannot attend by contacting Fiona Mather at:

26, Lisburn Road
L17 0BT
Tel: 0151 727 8118

or by emailing me that would be very helpful.

We are looking to gather views from all at the meeting. However, if you do have any suggestions you would like to make in advance of the meeting, please do let me know.

I look forward to seeing as many as possible at the Steeering Group Meeting on Saturday, 21st January, 2pm at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

With many thanks for your continuing support

Wirral Homeopathy: Update

A response to the Professional Executive Committee’s Homeopathy paper dated 18 January 2011 as presented to the ‘Public Meeting’ called by the Primary Care Trust (PCT) for 9 March 2010.

This meeting was announced to the ‘Public’ at one day’s notice on their website and notified to the North West Friends’ of Homeopathy (NWFH) a week earlier in a letter dated 2 March 2011 from Mr Martin McEwan (Director of Communications and Engagement NHS Wirral). The letter reads (para 1) “You will be aware that NHS Wirral is considering a recommendation from its Professional and Executive Committee (PEC) that it does not commission homeopathic therapies from 1 April 2011” (ie in under one month from that date), notwithstanding the existence of the very long established front line service through Liverpool PCT from Old Swan Liverpool and its outreach clinic at St Catherine’s Birkenhead. The opening words ‘you will be aware…’ refers to a letter 3 days before (dated 28 February) starting “You may be aware that NHS Wirral is considering a recommendation from its Professional and Executive Committee (PEC) that it does not commission homeopathic therapies from 1 April 2011” specifying that a ‘public meeting’ would take place but that the date had not been decided upon.

Wirral Homeopathy Under Threat

We have been advised of a public meeting on Wednesday 9th March 2011 at 6.30pm, called by NHS Wirral (the Primary Care Trust) to discuss a recommendation made by their Professional Executive Committee (PEC) to discontinue Homeopathic Services for Wirral Residents with effect from 1st April 2011.

We have made our views known of course, in no uncertain terms, that we regard the length of notice of the meeting (6 days) in respect of a ‘decision’ (effective in under a month) completely outside the decision-making remit of the PCT. Nonetheless we are proposing to attend the meeting to make this point in public.

Please do your utmost to attend and encourage other Wirral Residents to attend. I am also sending this out to all NWFH supporters via email because the Old Swan based service (and its outreach service in St Catherine’s Birkenhead) does depend financially on funding from the surrounding regions and, even if you are outside the Wirral area, if you can get there that would be most helpful.

Sefton Homeopathy Update

Many thanks for all your continuing support and the many messages we have received since our meeting in the Bedford Road Community Centre on 3rd March 2010.

Please note we have arranged, through Councillor Paul Larkin, a further meeting at Bedford Rd Community Centre on Friday 16th April 2010 at 7.30 pm. (not 31st March as pencilled in at our last meeting). This is to enable us hopefully to have a larger room and not start too late in the evening. Also it will enable us to be better informed about the latest position with the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Urgent Sefton Homeopathy Meeting

The Sefton Primary Care Trust have stopped Sefton residents accessing the established NHS Homeopathy Service available at Old Swan Health Centre.

A public meeting has been arranged for Wednesday, 3rd March 2010 at 7pm in the Bedford Road Community Centre, Bootle to underline the lack of proper consultation when this decision was made. This has created a Post Code lottery – against government policy – regarding access to homeopathy treatment in the Merseyside area.
