We had a very well attended AGM on 29th October, demonstrating that we still have a high level of interest in Homeopathy in the Liverpool area. Proceedings, though, were natuarally muted by the news that Liverpool CCG and Wirral CCG had both decided to stop providing funding for the very long established homeopathy service which has provided so much benefit to patients over the years — both before and after the establishment of the NHS in 1948.
This, of course, does not prevent suitably qualified and experienced doctors from continuing to provide homeopathic services in their own GP practices but the lack of NHS access to the bespoke individualised Liverpool Medical Homeopathy Service clinic at Old Swan (including the outreach service from St Caths in Birkenhead) comes as a disappointment to the North West Friends . We are continuing to remonstrate strongly, both with Liverpool and Wirral CCGs. The North West Friends still have funds but we do not want to dissipate all our efforts and cash exclusively pursuing this in the light of NHS national funding issues — which have put extreme pressure on budgets for all local NHS services, particularly those (like homeopathy) which are not uniformly available throughout the country.
So what next?
As discussed at the AGM — and with the support in particular of the two LMHS Medical Doctors. together with Dr Amitav Ghosh and Professional Homeopath Ken Atherton — we have decided to hold an important STEERING GROUP MEETING to be held in the Gibberd Room at Liverpool Metropolitan RC Cathedral to discuss how best we can take forward the work of the clinic in these new circumstances.
Parking is available and the Cathedral is easily accessible from Liverpool Lime Street Station (aprox 15 minutes walk). The Gibberd room is the floor below the main cathedral and can be approached directly from the underground car park through the lower ground floor doors, or alternatively by entering through the main doors of the cathedral and descending the stairs to the basement level. There are also toilet facilities close to the Gibberd room for those that need them.
I do hope you can come to this Steering Group meeting and please do invite other friends interested in the continuance of the service — all be it in a different form. There is no charge or formal application form for this meeting but it would be helpful, for catering on the day, to have approximate numbers. If you could please give an indication if you can / cannot attend by contacting Fiona Mather at:
26, Lisburn Road
Tel: 0151 727 8118
or by emailing me that would be very helpful.
We are looking to gather views from all at the meeting. However, if you do have any suggestions you would like to make in advance of the meeting, please do let me know.
I look forward to seeing as many as possible at the Steeering Group Meeting on Saturday, 21st January, 2pm at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
With many thanks for your continuing support
